  Patrick Barron '10

  This is great, longer than the others but perfect. I had to change it to 3rd person. Patrick Barron ’10 After about 15 years or so of photography, Patrick finally had an image published in National Geographic. Back in 2016, he had started a goal to visit every U.S. 国家公园, a goal he saw as a huge opportunity for self-growth, growing his photography skills, and gaining some excellent outdoorsy experience. 2018年5月, Patrick visited Voyageurs 国家公园 in northern Minnesota - a secluded park known for its many islands and waterways. 不幸的是, 当他到达公园时, much of the water was still frozen or thawing, meaning he would not be able to rent a boat to explore the islands. It felt like a ruined weekend road trip but by chance, 同一个周末, the northern lights were visible over Minnesota. It was one of the most beautiful nights he’s ever experienced in a national park and turned a poorly-planned road trip into one of his most memorable. 快进到今天, Patrick's love of the mountains had him move to Colorado where he just purchased a house in Castle Rock. Full-time Patrick is an aerospace/mechanical engineer at Sierra Nevada Corporation designing aircraft modifications. Many of you would probably know him better from his Michigan football and wildlife photos, though. Last year on November 29th (two days after Michigan's 42-27 victory over an Ohio State University), National Geographic ran an article on their website about the best places in the U.S. to view the northern lights and used his photo from that magical night in Minnesota as the lead image. Patrick was absolutely thrilled to see and checked off a bucket list item Patrick didn't actually think he would check off. Now with his frequent trips to Grand Teton/Yellowstone for grizzly bear and wolf photography, Patrick's next goal is to get his second image published!
